The European Retail Alliance should also be open to other players in the market and develop into a comprehensive European platform. But the large etailers Amazon and Ebay should not feel addressed by the invitation, after all, the platform can also be seen as an attempt to defend itself against the internationally operating etail competition. At the same time, Mediamarkt Saturn and Fnac Darty should strengthen their position in price negotiations with suppliers. The new alliance presents impressive figures for sales, branches and employees: Together, the two companies employ more than 80,000 people in more than 1,700 stores and generated sales of almost 30 billion euros last year. This is not good news for the reseller channel, because the retailers could pass on better purchasing conditions directly to the customers. The price war should therefore intensify.
